If they just want to make a buck they could at least offer new VISTA or LINUX or MAC or whatever drivers and just sell them for $15 or whatever they'd probably make more profit off of that than they did off selling you the hardware anyway in many cases. If they're going to abandon the product they should publish the specifications / source codes as open source so at least someone else can maintain the software if they desire to do so. VueScan 9.8.13 was released on July 25, 2023, and you can read about whats new in this version. Maybe then they'd be a little less eager to sell you things that will likely break or be unsupported within a few months after they sell it to you. The US should really start to get "take back" laws like some european countries have where manufacturers must at their own expense arrange for collection and proper recycling of unwanted / broken products they sell. 5 6 The software can be downloaded and used free of charge, but adds a watermark on scans until a license is purchased. It supports optical character recognition (OCR) of text documents. Nota che ladattatore per pellicole non funzionerà in Windows perché VueScan utilizza linterfaccia WIA con questo scanner e WIA non supporta gli adattatori per pellicole. VueScan is a computer program for image scanning, especially of photographs, including negatives. Per usare questo scanner in Microtek è necessario installare il driver Windows. It is ruinous to the environment, the economy, and highly disrespectful to their customers who trusted them to support their products. VueScan è compatibile con Microtek ScanMaker s480 in Windows. The universal driver by VueScan does not provide a TWAIN or WIA interface since it only needs to work with VueScan itself but on the other hand this also means it is much more stable. Haven't they seen the MOUNTAINS of discarded (often good) IT equipment filling the landfills just due to this kind of enforced obsolescence. IMHO it is just *shameful* for any company to intentionally refuse to support perfectly good / capable devices in subsequent OS versions just because they're lazy or would rather have you throw the unit out and buy a new one. They're often USB devices, you MIGHT be able to get away with running XP or even LINUX in a virtual machine, use a VM software that lets you pass through USB devices to the control of the guest OS, and voila, scanning.
